Blood in Urine

Blood in Urine. What's your worry?

In men, the urethra carries both urine and semen out of the body and what may be
mistaken for urinary bleeding is sometimes a bloody ejaculation, usually due to a
prostate problem. The presence of blood in your urine can turn toilet water pale pink or
bright red. Or, you may just see spots of blood in the water after urinating.
Blood in the urine can appear for a various or combination of reasons. Sometimes blood
in the urine is a sign of a serious problem in the urinary tract. Sometimes it is not
serious and requires no treatment.
Reason Number One. Rigorous physical activity, sport in particular. Athletes often
experienced blood in their urine because of the breakdown of muscle tissue during
exercises.
Reason Number Two. Kidneys abnormality. The kidneys filter water and waste out of
blood to produce urine. In case if they are not functioning properly you can have trace of
blood in urine.
Reason Number Three. Bladder abnormality: The bladder is an organ that holds urine.
Trace of blood in urine can indicate it.
Reason Number Four. Ureters problem. These narrow, hollow tubes carry urine from the
kidneys to the bladder.
Reason Number Five. Medications. Certain types of medications can irritate the urinary
tract, causing bleeding.
Reason Number Six. Urinary tract infections.
Reason Number Seven. Genitals or prostate abnormality. The prostate surrounds the
urethra in men. It is made up of glands that secrete a fluid that is part of semen. The
prostate often becomes enlarged in older men.

In any case if you have discovered traces of blood in urine it is better to have a
comprehensive medical exam. It will determine severity of your case, and (which we
hope the case) calm you down. Usually most of the conditions that are causing presence
of blood in urine (even a prostate cancer) are highly treatable.

Blood in urine is not always visible. If the amount of blood is small, the urine looks
normal. This is called microscopic hematuria because the blood cells are visible only
under a microscope. Typically, this is discovered when you have a urine test for some
other reason. So, our advise ? do not wait for other reason. If you are 45 or older take a
medical exam once a year.
